About Us
WHAT WE'RE ALL ABOUT
WearLab Solutions operates across the full spectrum of translational design—moving ideas from early-stage research to real-world impact.
Our work begins with a foundational exploration of user needs, materials, and biomechanics, and advances through iterative prototyping, testing, and validation. By integrating engineering, design, and human-centered research, we develop solutions that are both technically sound and functionally meaningful.
Through collaboration with researchers, clinicians, and industry partners, we translate concepts into deployable wearable systems. This process ensures that innovations are not only theoretically effective but also practical, scalable, and impactful in real-world environments.

Our
Story

WHERE IT ALL STARTED
T0 – Discovery & Problem Identification
In a functional design course at Iowa State University, students examined challenges in upper-limb prosthetics, identifying limitations in the outdated “Figure of 9” harness system.
T1 – Concept Development & Early Prototyping
Initial concepts were developed through research and prototyping, focusing on improving ergonomics, comfort, and performance.
T2 – Testing & Validation
Design iterations were refined through user feedback and technical evaluation, ensuring functionality and reliability in controlled settings.
T3 – Implementation & Practice
The concept evolved into the Dual Y Nexus Harness, a system designed for improved usability and real-world performance.
T4 – Impact & Translation to Community
With continued development and support, including funding through the Innovation Accelerator Fund, the design progressed toward broader adoption and real-world application.
